Of those who choose to dwell within the forests, none are as resourceful, or as kind as the Elves, who in their peaceful nature keep good grace with the spirits.

—Friar Calraigh Amyn, Fenmooran beastmaster of the Common Era

Elves were a humanoid species of Esria. Notable for being the first of the races to enter the world, they lived exceptionally long in comparison to many of the other mortal races. They were known to have an affinity with the forests, and throughout history founded multiple influential civilisations across the world.

Elves were naturally gifted with agility and clarity of mind, and were known to be great loremasters, mages and archers. In their advanced years many elves would grow to become influential figures in their respective societies, owing to their long lifespans.

The elves were notably the first race on Esria to found a great civilisation, though it was short-lived, with a dark history. The records of this time would later be lost, all but forgotten by the modern inhabitants of the world.

Information[]

Physical Description[]

Elves often reached the same height as their human counterparts, though could be smaller or larger. They did not suffer from genetic defects, and did not develop certain illnesses inherent in humans. Although they weakened with age, their physical decline was far slower than what was typically observed in other races.

Distinguishing features of the elves included their elongated ears, which were superior to those of their human counterparts. Other less visible features included eyes that could see further in low-light conditions. Elven hair generally varied from shades of browns and blacks, although mixed bloodlines allowed for other colours. Mutations present in the race could allow for silver hair, though this was extremely rare.

Society[]

Elves were known to prefer forests and jungles, residing in cities built within the trees. These communities became known as Elyns. Elven buildings were built on large flets that often reached high into the forest canopies, upon which halls and houses were built. Notable exceptions to this included the elves of Elyn Othram, who resided in the deserts of Hareen, and those of ancient Arcadia who were said to have built gigantic tiered cities of marble, stone, moonsilver and gold.

In later years, elves could be found in nearly every region of the world. They were especially integrated within the Kingdom of Vesryn. In later years, they would be forced into mass exodus by King Reynard IV, many finding refuge under the short-lived Empire of Ivryl.

Relations[]

With some historical (and societal) exceptions, elves were generally friendly with the other races of the world. They were closest in appearance and culture to humans. It was not an uncommon sight to see elves and humans co-existing alongside one another, even in societies with significant xenophobia. Furthermore, the existence of half-elves was testament to the compatibility of the two races.

Elves, moreso than other races, were likely to foster friendly relations with dragons, given their mutual longevity and cultural history. Exceptions existed, notably among the ancient elves.
